Last weekend the 5th Annual Sappi Mankele MTB
Challenge took place at Mankele Bike Park. With some of the best trails in the
country, and superb camping facilities, mountain bikers from across the country
bring their families for a fun-filled weekend.
Team Valencia showed their class by raking in a total of 19
medals.
In the marathon, Samantha Sanders took the win and QOM in
the ladies race, with Amy McDougall in 2nd; both ladies winning in
their respective age categories. Emily Clarke rolled over the line in 4th
overall and 2nd Senior Woman.
The 38km was hotly contested with Martin Oosthuisen taking 2nd
overall with Franco Pelser 2 seconds behind in 3rd. Both boys also
took 2nd and 3rd in the Junior category.
In the 22km, Emile Fourie took the win in 00:59:53 with
Hanru Lubbe just behind in 1:00:02. Ansli De Beer took 2nd overall
in the women’s race.
Young Kendal De Beer took Bronze overall and in the Sprogs
Category in the 12km.
It was great to see Naeem, Shoaib, Cobus and Moeen, join in
the fun. Brett Coates created a fun vibe with his entertaining commentary and
Mark Meyer, Geoffrey Anderson and co outdid themselves in the organisation of
the event as well as preparing a top class route.
